Success Stories
Girls, Sports and Boys Town
Many of our girls suffered severe mistreatment or neglect before coming to Boys Town. As a result, they may feel alone and insignificant. We use sports as a tool to build up their confidence and self-esteem. Being part of a team connects them to others and teaches them to work together toward a common goal. We are driven to win as much as any other school, but our most significant victories don’t show up on the scoreboard.
Angee: A lot of our girls have low self-esteem just from the backgrounds they're coming from. Maybe the way that they were treated or mistreated where they were. So they made different kind of choices that kept them away from the fields.
McKenna: Coming to Boys Town, they really took me in and they made sure that I felt like I was an important part of the team. And they built me up even when I was struggling in my worst points, they were there for me, and they pushed me to become a better athlete.
Hailey: I've learned many things in sports. I've learned perseverance, I've learned dedication, I've learned to think about others than myself.
Angee: Sometimes we may give, if you're at a public school, you're looking to win state and win conference. Now we are, but that's not our main goal. So we may give a girl a chance who may not have gotten a chance at another school. Therefore we find the diamond in the rough and then we turn our girls into athletes.
Brianna: The role that faith plays at Boys Town is huge. I think without faith, Boys Town wouldn't actually be Boys Town.
