For nearly two decades, Marcy Shyllon has been a cornerstone of the Boys Town community. Her journey with Boys Town began 18 years ago at the Philadelphia site, where she worked in a direct care role at a shelter for teenage girls who had been arrested and sentenced to serve time. Receiving care with Boys Town was an alternative. There, Marcy and her team played a crucial role in intervening in the lives of these young women, teaching them essential pro-social skills to help them reintegrate into society.
Marcy’s path to Boys Town was not a conventional one. Initially, she was working in banking and pursuing an MBA. But as she spent over 40 hours a week in a job that didn’t fulfill her, Marcy realized that she wanted more – a career that would allow her to make a meaningful impact on the world. When she discovered Boys Town, everything changed. She saw an opportunity to intervene in the lives of at-risk youth, guiding them towards success and a brighter future. This realization sparked a career shift that led her to dedicate herself fully to this essential work.
As the Senior Program Director of Operations at Boys Town New England, Marcy's responsibilities are immense. She serves her direct care and supervisory staff, ensuring they have the tools, training, resources and motivation needed to succeed in their mission of serving youth and families. However, her role is not without its challenges. Marcy often finds herself having to overcome obstacles and limitations that are beyond her control. Yet, her commitment to her team and the families they serve remains unwavering.
Throughout her tenure, Marcy has witnessed countless successes -- both in the growth and development of her employees and in the positive impact Boys Town has had on the youth and families they serve. Hearing testimonies from those who felt their lives were changed by Boys Town's care is one of the aspects of her job that brings her the most pride.
Outside of her professional life, Marcy is a proud mother of four. Her children’s hobbies and activities keep her busy, and she finds joy in supporting them during this stage of their lives. When she has time for herself, Marcy loves being near water, watching movies, exploring new restaurants and listening to music.
Marcy Shyllon’s dedication to her work at Boys Town New England is a testament to her passion for helping others. Her leadership, compassion and commitment to making a difference continue to inspire everyone around her.
