Sunday morning, October 9, was an early wake-up call for three Boys Town New England Family Home employees Riley, Efrain, and Chris, who gathered at Easton's Beach in Newport, Rhode Island, to run 13.1 miles of the scenic Amica Newport Marathon in support of Boys Town New England. They were greeted at the beach-side finish by forty Boys Town New England volunteers from Portsmouth High School's Girls Soccer Team and the Newton North (MA) High School's Boys Cross-Country Team, who cheered them on while distributing medals, food and drinks to all the finishers.
Boys Town New England was chosen by Gray Matter Marketing as one of five local non-profits to receive donations from the proceeds of this year's event.
In addition, Amica Insurance announced a Run Raising initiative, through which ten individual fundraisers received an additional $1,000 contribution for their designated charity. Riley Huntington, Family Home Program Director and Run Raising participant, was awarded an additional $1,000 contribution, that he graciously donated to Boys Town New England.
“Sunday was such a great day at the Marathon for so many reasons. I was so proud to see some of our staff members participate in the run to raise funds for our organization," said Glenn Hofmann, Boys Town New England's Development Director. “The volunteers we had from Portsmouth and Newton North High Schools did such a good job of representing Boys Town and their schools, showing such enthusiastic support for the runners. We also appreciated the opportunity the event provided for us to educate the event volunteers and participants about Boys Town and I can't thank Gray Matter Marketing enough for selecting Boys Town as one of the designated charities."
A total of 2,061 runners finished the event. The Amica Newport Marathon will return on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
