Boys Town New England Volunteers Assist at Men’s U.S. Senior Open Golf Championship

For the second time in three years, Boys Town New England had a significant presence at one of the top professional golf tournaments in the world. More than 35 volunteers staffed a concession stand June 25-27 at the 2024 United States Senior Open Golf Championship, which was held at the Newport Country Club in Newport, RI.

Volunteers included members of the Boys Town staff, youth currently living at Boys Town, Boys Town Board members and members of the Portsmouth High School National Honor Society. More than 20,000 fans were expected to attend the four-day event, which is one of senior golf’s “major” championships.

“What a wonderful event for our volunteers to work at over a three-day period,” Glenn Hofmann, Director of Development at Boys Town New England, said. “To see so many different groups who are connected to Boys Town come together as volunteers to support the Boys Town mission was exciting to see. Being able to experience a major sporting event at a prestigious location such as the Newport Country Club is something all of us will never forget.”

For its efforts, Hofmann said Boys Town will receive a portion of the tournament’s overall revenues. Boys Town volunteered in a similar fashion two years ago at the United States Open Golf Tournament at the Brookline Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts.
