What is the Boys Town Education Model?

Research-based and results-oriented, the Boys Town Education Model empowers educators with the tools and strategies they need to ensure that students are safe and successful. Boys Town partners with teachers, staff and administrators to provide services including on-site assessments, training, ongoing consultation and evaluation services. Our shared goal is to maximize learning success for students by reducing disruptive behaviors and creating healthy school cultures.

The components of the Boys Town Education Model include:

  • Teaching social skills that contribute to a positive learning environment
  • Empowering children to make good decisions
  • Correcting inappropriate behaviors by teaching and practicing appropriate alternative behaviors
  • Reducing the frequency and severity of referrals through a data-driven referral process framework
  • Praising students more and punishing them less

Boys Town’s unique Education Model teaches techniques and methods for improving student behavior and academic performance by creating a positive learning environment in the classroom and the entire school building.

See the Education Model in Action

Father Flanagan believed that children aren’t inherently bad: they’re only as bad or good as their environment and education. Today, more than a century later, Boys Town continues to be guided by his forward-thinking philosophy. Built and refined on decades of research and experience, the Education Model provides a comprehensive approach to addressing the emotional, behavioral and social needs of students. See how this teaching model and approach changed the outcomes for students at this Nebraska school.

Lift with Boys Town Education

Lift with Boys Town is a multi-component, community-based prevention initiative that uses Boys Town’s family- and school-based programs to generate community-wide impact. We collaborate to implement the prevention model that best fits the community and its needs and programs as well as generate strategies for sustainability.
