The BTRV is hitting the road again in 2025.
And what, you may be wondering, is a BTRV?
BTRV is short for Boys Town Research Vehicle, a mobile research laboratory that features hospital-grade equipment to test hearing and speech. The BTRV is fully equipped for hearing research studies and other communication-based studies like speech, language, memory and attention. In addition, it also provides the ability to conduct hearing screenings at community health fairs.
The BTRV gives Boys Town the rare opportunity to expand research populations far beyond our home base of Omaha, Nebraska, including more individuals from underrepresented populations, like those with Down syndrome. This research will lead to the discovery of more health innovations that can be applied to everyone, reducing the disparity that exists for some populations.
In 2024 the Boys Town Research Vehicle traveled to these communities:
- Tallahassee, Florida
- Orlando, Florida
- West Palm Beach, Florida
- Phoenix, Arizona
- Denver, Colorado
- Charlotte, North Carolina
- Omaha, Nebraska
- Scottsbluff, Nebraska
- Glenwood, Iowa
