At Boys Town, sports are more than just games—they’re a chance to build character, foster teamwork and teach resilience.

This philosophy was evident during a press conference held in the Hall of History, where Boys Town hosted an event celebrating the Outland Trophy and its legacy of excellence in college football.

For over 75 years, the Outland Trophy has honored the best interior lineman in college football, making it one of the sport’s most prestigious awards. This year’s recipient, Kelvin Banks Jr. from the University of Texas, exemplifies the talent, perseverance and humility the award represents. Banks, who earned All-American honors, thanked his teammates, coaches and family for their support, reflecting the character that defines great athletes.

The press conference also highlighted the Tom Osborne Legacy Award, which recognizes a coach who has left a lasting impact on football.

This year’s honoree, legendary former Nebraska defensive coordinator Charlie McBride, shared his thoughts on Boys Town and its mission. “This is a wonderful place,” McBride said. “We are really proud of Boys Town. It’s amazing how much this place has grown and how it reaches so many people.”

McBride’s influence on players and his dedication to building championship teams embody the leadership qualities Boys Town seeks to instill in its youth.

The event was a collaborative effort made possible by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, the Outland Trophy Committee, Downtown Rotary and the Mancuso family, whose dedication brought the award to Omaha 28 years ago. Boys Town extends its gratitude to Bob Mancuso Jr. for his leadership in making the event a success.

Congratulations to Kelvin Banks Jr., Charlie McBride and everyone involved in this inspiring event. Together, we celebrate the power of sports to teach lessons that last a lifetime.
